What is Organizational Assessment?
It’s stepping back from day to day management and breathing.
It’s focusing on where you are….and what you need to improve and grow.
It’s reviewing and rethinking all aspects of your organization:
- Culture-How you act and interact as a group
- Finances-Undercapitalized and need money, or overcapitalized and need better use of your money
- Internal Systems-Are you getting the right reports, are you collecting the right data, are you duplicating efforts.
- Leadership-What does the “org chart” say, how does it really work, do you have the right people in the right slots, is it broad enough to cover the organization, is it deep enough to allow for succession.
- Personnel-Same as above, except focus on the broader group of employees
- Programs/Services-What are you “selling”, what could you be selling, what should you stop selling, how are you pricing it, what is your ROI.
- Structure-Are you flexible to change, are you working with current concepts, are you top heavy.
What is the end result?
An accurate and sometimes painfully honest picture of the organization's current situation, including its strengths, weaknesses, obstacles and choices for the future.
How can we be of help? By helping your team to:
- Agree on what’s to be reviewed, by whom, by when;
- Orient everyone involved in the process, answering questions about participation, confidentiality and reporting;
- Hold individual or small group interviews, brainstorming, and/or survey sessions;
- Look at information you have available (or don’t!) and then bring it all together
- Prioritize issues;
- Develop recommendations for change;
- Develop an action plan for addressing priority concerns, including responsibilities and timelines; and
- Implement the action plan
It’s hard to self-evaluate….you’re too close to the subject! An outside evaluator can provide valuable insight from the broader world of business.
